Existentialism

Quotes from the text:

This is an example of Existence--> Essence. Estelle must realize that she is in Hell, that she exists.

"Dead! Dead! Dead!Knives, poison, ropes-all useless. It has happened already, do you understand? Once and for all. So here we are, forever" (46)
Inez announces to Garcin and Estelle that they are in Hell. This is the act of free, self creation for Inez.

"one always dies too soon-or too late. And yet tone's whole life is complete at that moment, with a line drawn neatly under it, ready for summing up. You are-your life, and nothing else."(43).
This shows that there is no outside force controlling your life. That you are your life.
